Gilsonite ASTM standard

International standards are developed to establish coordination, ease of communication and address technical problems, and are the result of the opinions of the experts of the member countries of the International Standard Organization. One of the largest standard-setting organizations that include technical standards for materials, products, organizations and services is the American Society Testing and Materials (ASTM) term. It is not a government agency with more than 12,000 standards. Volunteers from all countries that are members of the International Standards Organization define them and publish 77 volumes annually.

Named method in ASTM standard:

This standard is characterized by a combination of letters and numbers as follows:  Axxx-xx Grade xx, Bxxx, Cxxx…

A: ferrous metals, B: non-ferrous metals, C: ceramic, cement, concrete, D: Miscellaneous material, E: Miscella, neous Subjects, F:Materials for specific application, G: Corrosion Deterioration Degradation Materials, ES: Emergency Standards, P: Proposals, PS:Provisional Standard. The last two digits represent the standard year of observation, Grade xx: represents the minimum tensile strength in Ksi.

for example: ASTM A 105M-A 105, ASTM A 106, ASTM A 47M-A 47
