Gilsonite ASTM standard
International standards are developed to establish coordination, ease of communication and address technical problems, and are the result of the opinions of the experts of the member countries of the International Standard Organization. One of the largest standard-setting organizations that include technical standards for materials, products, organizations and services is the American Society Testing and Materials (ASTM) term. It is not a government agency with more than 12,000 standards. Volunteers from all countries that are members of the International Standards Organization define them and publish 77 volumes annually.
